Astronomy 101: The Fall Night Sky - What s Up There?

ID : 60570
« back to classes page
Let’s look at the Fall night sky together and see what’s up there. The Summer Triangle of the stars Altair, Deneb and Vega will be our guide.  We’ll peer deeply into the heart of our galaxy, the Milky Way, and explore the wonders of Sagittarius and its wispy nebulae. Stops along the way will include spectacular open and globular star clusters, as well as blue and gold star, Albireo. Don’t forget a glimpse of Antares, the red giant at the heart of the scorpion in Scorpius. During the course we will have wonderful views of Saturn, and a possible glimpse of Jupiter as it heads into the western sunset..  Sky conditions and moon permitting, most evenings will include viewing through a high-quality telescope. A highlight of the course will be at least one visit to my home observatory in Woodacre No previous knowledge of astronomy is necessary for this course.  It is also open to those of you who have taken Astronomy 101 in the past
