Description: This program has two modules:
•Interior Decorating and Design
•Green Interior Design

Interior design and decorating touches the lives of all of us in a very direct way we all live in interiors, and most of us work, study, shop, and travel inside buildings, vehicles, and other enclosures. At one time or another, almost everyone has been an interior designer or decorator on a limited scale, when choosing a painting color or a rug, when buying furniture, or when arranging furniture in a new living place. For these reasons, interior design and decorating is -- or should be -- of interest to everyone

This course helps you understand the basic principles of interior design and decorating to both improve your life, and set you in a new direction for your career!

After completing this course, you should be able to:

• Define history and principles of the interior design profession
• Identify the steps making up the design process
• Comprehend the use of various mediums in interior design
• Identify various technical issues that the interior designer must consider
• Comprehend project management and the business of interior design

This Green Interior Design Specialist course covers everything from theory to current practices. It presents the tools and knowledge needed to implement an environmentally responsible approach for any interior design project. The course opens with a broad perspective on global sustainability followed by a timeline of human and environmental interactions. This sets the stage for the course’s coverage of the day-to-day issues of environmentally responsible interior design, including:

• Indoor air quality
• Environmentally responsible lighting design
• Energy and water issues
• Evaluation and specification of interior finishes and furnishings
• United States Green Building Council and LEED certification

As a Green Interior Design Specialist you will examine a variety of essentials design standards and philosophies. The final part of this course includes in-depth case studies that demonstrate how the principles and practices can be successfully put into action.

After completing this course, you should be able to:

• Define the core elements of interior design
• Identify methods for installing environmentally responsible lighting
• Identify strategies for maintaining quality indoor air
• Define the requirements for LEED certification
• Identify considerations for environmentally responsible HVAC, energy, and water

Instructor Description: This class supported by an Educational Mentor. Our educational mentors have worked or are working in the subject they mentor. Educational Mentors reviews student work, student progress, and interacts with students as needed. They respond to any questions or concerns you might have, as well as encouraging and motivating you to succeed.

Certification: Upon successful completion of our Interior Decorating & Design course, students will be prepared for an entry-level position in the field and to sit for the NCCB national certification exam to become a Certified Interior Decorating Specialist (CIDS).

Upon successful completion of our Green Interior Design course, students will be prepared to sit for the NCCB national certification exam to become a Certified Green Interior Design Specialist (CGIDS).

Requirements

• Broadband or high-speed internet access is required. Broadband includes DSL, cable, and wireless connections.
• Dial-Up internet connections will result in a diminished online experience. Moodle pages may load slowly and viewing large audio and video files may not be possible.

Hardware
• Windows hardware configurations and processors are acceptable
• Mac computers MUST have Microsoft Window Operating Systems over Bootcamp (Bootcamp is a free download from Apple''s website)
• 1 GB RAM minimum recommended
