"If a novel is a marriage, a short story is a love affair." This quote from Lorrie Moore gives you a little taste of what delicious reading a good short story offers. All the thrills, none of the commitment. Each week we'll discuss the assigned story from the perspective of the mundane (Did you like it?) to the examination of the art expressed in movement and timelessness and compressed into a slice of life. The brevity of the form is often the launch of a screenplay, and we will read some stories that have made award winning movies. Selections will come from last year's "Best American Short Stories", a copy of which is included in the price of the class. Prepare to get hooked!
